Player Of The Week!! Week 3

On Monday evening, at Confederation Park in North Vancouver, Columbus-Clan FC continued to impress by demolishing the host Norvan Eagles by a 5-1 margin. Ironically, it was Norvan that took the early lead as Brian Fowler’s long range,  speculative, left foot shot found its way  to the back of the net behind a bewildered Aaron Young.  The Norvan goal seemed to be the wake-up call Columbus needed as the visitors took over the reins of the match from that moment onward. Shortly thereafter, Tiernan King cleverly played a short free kick to Steve DeBlasio who proceeded to unleash a wicked drive that gave newly-signed goalkeeper Drew Smiley not chance whatsoever. Just before the halftime whistle, Columbus took the well-deserved lead when a clever 3-way passing play involving Tiernan King, Blair Robertson, and Brendan Stabeno ended with King scoring from close range. In the second half, Columbus controlled the play from start to finish and scored three unanswered goals to lay claim to the rather easy victory. First, Steve DeBlasio beat a couple of Norvan defenders before setting up Tiernan King for his second goal of the match. Moments later, Brendan Stabeno headed home a Tiernan King corner kick for Columbus’ fourth goal. King would then finish off his hat trick on a fine individual effort to round out the scoring. The Columbus backline, composed of Tony Gaita, Frank Mollica, Blair Robertson, and especially Jonathan Poli played superbly throughout the match, shutting down Norvan’s attackers time after time. Columbus’ victory solidifies its hold on third place, while the Eagles’ loss leaves them in the middle of the table with a mediocre 2-2-3 record.

Team Of The Week!! Week 7
COLUMBUS-CLAN FC for its brilliant performance in defeating  the revamped and rejuvenated Norvan Eagles by an emphatic 5-1 margin. Led by the outstanding performances of midfielder Steve DeBlasio, defender Jonathan Poli, and forward Tiernan King, Columbus dictated the pace of the match for virtually the entire 90 minutes of play.

Player Of The Week!! Week 7
West Van FC’s striker, JESSE FETTERLEY and Columbus-Clan’s TIERNAN KING for their remarkable performances in leading their teams to victory by very comfortable margins. Both Fetterley and King scored  hat tricks for their respective teams. Also, both players contributed much more than their goals as they displayed qualities of tenacity and skill throughout the contests.
