In fact, had it not been for some bad luck, King could easily have scored 5 goals! As a result of his hat-trick, King climbs to second place in the race for the GOLDEN BOOT AWARD, with 8 goals to his credit. |

Week 11 Team of the Week!

| COLUMBUS FC was awarded team of the week for its impressive performance in defeating the highly regarded Metro-Ford Wolves by a decisive 2-0 margin. Led by the extraordinary midfield performances of Nathan Quan and Scott McEachearn, as well as some stubborn defending on the part of Tony Gaita, Jonathan Poli, Robbie Cairns, Kozo Manome, and young Joel Malouf, Columbus kept the Wolves off the scoresheet and fully deserved the entire 3 points. As a result of the all-important victory, the ‘Italians’ now find themselves in a 3-way tie for 4th place, only 3 points behind league-leading West Van FC. |

Columbus FC Wins Gold at the
2009 Masters Classic!

Vancouver’s Columbus FC Masters and Québec’s Eurocan Dorval-Outremont struck gold at the Western Masters and Classics in Edmonton, AB while Markham Lightning won gold at the Eastern Masters in Vaughan, ON.
In the men’s over-35 competition in Edmonton, Columbus FC Masters won 1:0 over Alberta’s Edmonton Victoria Masters. Manitoba’s Grant Mill Rovers finished third while Saskatchewan’s Saskatoon Arsenal finished fourth.
Half-time substitute Gino Gaita scored the lone goal of the final. Columbus’ starting XI featured Trevor Jones in goal, Danny Pecile, Frank Ciaccia, Dino Piccolo and Vito Lore on defence, Sal Cuccione, Frank Lore, Victor Montagliani and Shawn McCoughlin at midfield, and Kevin Colbow and Joe Giovanazzo up front.

2009 Masters Provincial Cup Champions!

| In the Masters’ Division Province Cup final, two VMSL teams battled tenaciously for the entire 90 minutes with the Italians finally prevailing by a 2-1 margin over the Westsiders. Both teams’ rosters included some very notorious former players, such as Westside’s John Catliff and Columbus’ Frank Ciaccia. Columbus took a 2-0 lead first half lead on goals by Gino Gaita and Frank Lore, while Westside narrowed the margin late in the game on a goal by Carl Atterton. All in all, a very well-played game between two very skilled teams! Columbus will now represent BC in the Western Canada championships. |
